Branding Photography - Bondi Records

Founders of Bondi Records, Craig and Geri, initially approached me to create some imagery that would bring a face to their brand when they were operating out of their home garage and were an online only store. Since then, things have grown a lot, and they now have a shop in the bustling Sydney suburb of Bondi Junction.

The business began from Craig’s love for Vinyl records, at a time when old-fashioned, raw and authentic crafts were coming back into fashion, a seeming rebellion against the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence and social detachment taking place in the world (my opinion).

Craig had spent many of his younger years DJ-ing in nightclubs in London and after selling his Vinyl collection to fund his travels to Australia, he started again after buying an old 70s turntable and rekindling his love for them. He decided to start an online store with just 18 products and things grew from there.

When I met Craig at his Sydney home, he showed me into his dark underground garage, which was the heart of his operation, with walls lined with records. Qantas Travel Insider Magazine were publishing an article about the growth of the business and they also wanted images to illustrate it, so we spent some time creating portraits and documenting his process there. You can view the article here.

We later took a walk around Bondi Beach to get branding photos that would incorporate the location and vibe of the business. Bondi is a mecca for surfers within Sydney and a place that’s on many peoples’ bucket list when they arrive in Australia. We wanted to keep thing natural and fresh, to give customers from all around the world a glimpse into the vibe on Bondi.

Since we met in Craig’s garage, things have grown. A lot. Geri moved into the business full time, they took on a commercial premises and opened a physical store and now employ a number of staff. The Bondi Records store has also become a draw for big name recording artists too, including G Flip and Mel C, who have held meet and greet signing sessions for fans at the store, and world-first Listening Parties for the likes of Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson.
